Venturing Leadership Skills Course (VLSC)
This is the primary leadership training course for youth
Venturers. All Venturers can attend. VLSC consists of a
series of leadership modules, divided into four categories:
Vision, Communication, Organization and Synergism.

New Leader Essentials and Youth Protection Training
New leaders who are attending the Pow Wow and who have
not attended these courses are strongly encouraged to take
them.
New Leader Essentials is an introductory session that highlights
the values, aims, history, funding, and methods of
Scouting. It addresses how those aims and methods are
reached in an age-appropriate style within Cub Scouting, Boy
Scouting, Varsity Scouting and Venturing in a 90 minute
training session. Each leader completes this training course
only once.
Youth Protection training is an important component of the
B.S.A.’s strategy to protect its members from child abuse.
Youth Protection is now available on-line to take or re-certify
at your convenience. If there is enough need, it may be possible
that Youth Protection training will be available and may
also be offered in Spanish. Please indicate interest when registering.
Greater New York Councils requires that all adult
leaders attend Youth Protection training every two years. |

How to Train Youth Leaders - Troop Leader Development
This training course discusses how to guide and develop
youth leaders into their roles using the resources within
the troop. This information includes the understanding
of the various youth roles and how to allow the Scouts
to meet their leadership challenges.

LDS Mini-Philmont
As in years past, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day
Saints will conduct its Mini-Philmont training event in conjunction
with the Training Extravaganza. Following the general
opening at 9AM, there will be a seperate LDS opening
with President Burgess and the other visiting leaders from
Salt Lake City, after which we will have various courses that
will go until 3PM (unless you are attending
one of the afore mentioned all-day sessions, such as
Venture Leader Specific Training).
